First stop ~ Pumpkin Chunkin'!
We brought our Halloween pumpkins from home and the boys were able
to fling them using a replica 11th century trebuchet ~
Ethan went first ~ he had the smaller one and it went far.
Then it was Elliot's turn ~ his pumpkin was huge, and heavy ~
And pretty much went straight down and SPLAT!!
Then we watched a little of the Sheepdog Trials, which was quite fascinating.
We were explaining to Elliot how the dogs were going to herd the sheep back into the pen.
He watched for a bit, then turned and asked us why the dog was going to "hurt" the sheep. :)
We then visited and fed the beautiful Highland Cows.
Then the boys did the corn maze all by themselves ~ they did great and
loved every minute of it. While waiting for them, we strolled around a bit,
grabbed a drink and spent the rest of that time chatting with a couple
(their kids were also in the maze) and had a wonderful conversation
about their China adoption a few years back.

Then onto learning about how the settlers of Rural Hill would have lived
during the late 1700s. The Blacksmith was the boys' favorite.
The kitchen house and spinning wheel were my favorite.

The boys spent time exploring the log cabin ~ or the top part
of the kitchen house, where apple pie was being made over a fire.
We enjoyed freshly popped kettle corn!
Then finished our day off with a relaxing and scenic hayride.
It was a great day and we had a lot of fun ~
and were so thankful for the beautiful fall weather.
"Autumn begins with a subtle change in the light, with skies a deeper blue,
and nights that become suddenly clear and chilled.

The season comes full with the first frost, the disappearance of migrant birds,
and the harvesting of the season's last crops."

LOVE this post and it WAS a gorgeous NC day! It was not by accident that you ran into the couple who adopted from China...........
What a fun day... so who get's the fun of cleaning up the pumpkins? Or shall we just call it "compost" where it landed? ~ Ellen
Oh, my son would have loved that trebuchet when he was little. What a special and fun day you had. Looks like there are so many interesting things to do there.
