Indian Museum

We just got back from a field trip to a local Indian Museum.
First we explored an Indian Village and saw cedar post and bark houses.
The boys brought notebooks so they could take notes and draw
some of the details for our village project next week.
Following the path, we ventured into the cemetery,
where again the boys took notes on their discoveries.

Then we headed to more outdoor structures that included a Well House, Cabin,
Blacksmith Shop, Smokehouse, Barn with a Civil War period wagon, Spring
House and an Heirloom Garden w/strains or plants dating from 1840 or earlier.
"The ground on which we stand is sacred ground ~
it is the blood of our ancestors."
~ Chief Plenty Coups, Crow

Then we headed inside to explore the exhibits focusing on the
American Revolution, the Civil War, and life in our local area around 1900.
The boys enjoyed the schoolroom and the tales of how children learned
many years ago.  Their favorite things were the desks with folding chairs
that were lined up and the stick that was used for "switching".
It was quite chilly, but still a nice morning and I'm glad we were able to get out
and explore.  There was so much in the museum that we found fascinating,
the boys especially enjoyed the weapons ~ muskets, arrowheads, rifles
and the tent displays.  It gave us some ideas and help for our project.

We're looking forward to our weekend ~Daddy has been gone
this week, so we'll be happy to be together again!
I can't believe it's almost Thanksgiving!
